What is this service for?

This service is intended for customers replacing an original Bosch EDC17C46 engine control unit with a compatible donor ECU.

Where the original ECU can be read and the donor unit is suitable, the relevant data is transferred from the original ECU to the donor unit.

The aim is to prepare the replacement ECU using the original unit’s available data. This is commonly described as ECU cloning or ECU data transfer.

The service does not include supplying an ECU.

Have the vehicle and original ECU correctly diagnosed.

Confirm that the donor ECU is suitable for the vehicle.

Purchase this mail-in service.

Remove and securely package the original and donor ECUs.

Include your order and contact details.

Post both units using the confirmed postage method.

The units are assessed and the original ECU data is read where possible.

Suitable data is transferred to the donor ECU where technically possible.

Relevant bench checks are completed.

Both units are securely returned to you.

Bench testing cannot reproduce every electrical, mechanical, network or operating condition present in the vehicle. Final installed operation depends on the vehicle, donor compatibility, wiring, power supplies, communication network and the accuracy of the original diagnosis.

Installation, coding and “plug & play” information

Where the original ECU data is successfully transferred to a fully compatible donor ECU, the replacement may be intended to operate using the original vehicle data.

However, “plug & play” is not an unconditional guarantee that no further work will be required.

Additional coding, programming, adaptation, synchronisation or diagnostic work may still be needed where:

The donor ECU is not fully compatible

Hardware or software versions differ

The original data is incomplete or corrupted

Other immobiliser or security components have faults

The vehicle has stored configuration faults

The vehicle requires manufacturer-specific procedures

The original fault is elsewhere in the vehicle

Installation and any required vehicle-side procedures must be carried out by a suitably qualified technician.

Whether additional coding or programming is required: Owner confirmation required.

Important diagnostic information and exclusions

The vehicle must be correctly diagnosed before the ECU is sent.

Symptoms such as no start, intermittent starting, no communication, warning lights or stored fault codes can also be caused by:
